Constitution Day 2018

Presentation and Discussion

Did you know that the Constitution is Version 2.0 of our founding document and it replaced an earlier version that had too many bugs?

Or that the Bill of Rights wasn't even in the Constitution when it was ratified?

How often does the Constitution get amended?

Why does the Supreme Court get to decide what the provisions of the Constitution mean?

Did you know that it took more than 200 years to ratify the last amendment?

This presentation will cover the principles and historial context that helped form our highest law, and how it has changed over the years.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate the 231st anniversary of the adoption of the doument by the Constitutional Convention (Sept. 17, 1787) and provide an opportunity for civic education for the community.

The event will be led by Orford resident Ronald Smith. Smith is president of the organization that is facilitating the development of the Uniting Amendment, the crowdsourced constitutional amendment.

The Orford Free Library is located on Route 25A about three miles East of Rt 10.

When: September 15, 2018, 1:30 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.
